Christening gowns
are traditionally white, although not all churches prescribe that children
must wear christening gowns or christening daygowns that are white in color.
White is, however, the preferred color in christening
gowns as it symbolizes purity and youth. The baby to wear the christening
gown, bishop style gown, etc... should also have shoes and bonnet to
accompany their christening gowns. Along with christening gowns, a bib and
blanket are both wonderful additions to the christening ceremony and can be
added to the child’s keepsake box. These accessories can be monogrammed with
the name and christening date of the baby to preserve memories.
Other precious additions to the
christening occasion along with christening gowns are a satin or eyelet
covered bible that the minister of the christening ceremony could bless
and/or a unique christening gifts name bracelet. Traditionally,
christening gowns and christening daygowns are worn by both males and
females. Also, christening gowns or christening daygowns should always be
elaborate and beautiful. Christening gowns should be as soft as
possible so not to irritate baby's skin. The ideal christening gown is created from beautiful fabrics with
embroidered valenciennes or lace. Regardless of how much or little trimming
and embellishment christening gowns have, christening gowns must be
attractive and elegant. And of course, christening gowns for a baby ought to
be manufactured of the softest fabrics. Choosing a christening gown made
from cotton, linen or silk will ensure heirloom quality. These natural
materials also are much more comfortable for baby. Christening gowns can be plain
or fancy, but christening gowns should always be made of fine material and
